Objectives: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is the most commonform of diabetes. Todetermine the similarities of development of T2DMbetween rhesus monkey [Macaca mulatta lasiotis (M. m. lasiotis)] andhuman being, the clinical parameters were determined during a period of2 years in 60 adult male rhesus monkeys (M. m. lasiotis).

Fig.1.Changes of blood glucose concentration of high-fat diet-fed and normal diet-fed rhesusmonkeys. Black triangles, T2Dmgroup(n=8); black squares, IGT/IFG group (n=26); black circles, normal group (n=16); white circles, control group (n=10). Eight developedhyperglycemia in 24 months (FPG between 126 and 140 mg/dL), whereas the FPG of IFG group was between 110 and 126 mg/dL. In contrast, the blood glucose level of the normal group was normal (compared to the control group) during treatment period.
